#MeatTheChallenge winner announcement

Jul 16, 2020

Some might say it’s not possible to improve on a Welsh Beef steak sandwich; it’s delicious yet simple, with the beef taking centre stage.

However, following a stampede of entries for our recent Steak Sandwich Challenge, it seems the simple steak sandwich has stirred up some culinary creative juices and has reached a whole new level.  But there could only be one winner.  With a clear steer on what makes a sublime steak sandwich, our judge, Chris ‘Flamebaster’ Roberts said,

“I’ve loved the competition, we’ve had some incredible entries and it seems we really caught the imagination of the Welsh public during what was a strange and difficult time – seeing the entries flowing in, I wanted to try them all!

“In the end we had three worthy shortlisted finalists but the Migrating Chef edges it for me, the flavour combos just came together to make an epic sandwich; one I’ll be making over and over again no doubt!”

So there we have it. The Migrating Chef’s spiced bravette steak sourdough sub secures the top spot for the best Welsh Beef steak sandwich! With this enviable accolade comes a fantastic fire pit complete with accessories worth over £400 as well as a £100 voucher to spend on Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef at one of our Butchers’ Club members. Llongyfarchiadau!

A huge thank you to our shortlisted entries – Llio Angharad & Nicky Batch and Simon Turner – both entries are awarded a £100 Butchers Club voucher.
