BBQ king Chris ‘Flamebaster’ Roberts has set YOU the epic, mouth-watering task of presenting us with the crème de la crème of PGI Welsh Beef steak sandwiches.
Famed for his extravagant meat fuelled feasts, Chris is the perfect judge in what will be the tastiest competition to run this summer! For a little inspiration and guidance, as well as a reference to the quality of what we expect from you, take a look at his own attempt below:
‘Meat’ the challenge in 4 steps:
1. Pay your local butcher or supermarket a visit, either in store or online, and purchase your very own PGI Welsh Beef steak(s). Your butcher can give you expert advice on different cuts of Welsh Beef to help you decide which to choose for your attempt
2. Head to your kitchen and cook your steak to your liking and serve in your unique ‘pimped up’ sandwich. Let your imagination run wild with how you present your creation – do you include sides and garnishes? Do you even use bread? The choice is yours! Just remember, the quality of your pimped-up treat can be just as important as quantity!
3. Put a ‘steak’ in the ground and show us you’ve met the challenge by posting an image or video of your ‘pimped-up’ sandwich along with the all-important recipe on your social media channels using #MeatTheChallenge / #BrechdanIrBrenin as well as tagging us in your post:

Are you up to the challenge?
The competition will begin during Great British Beef Week (23rd – 30th of April) to celebrate the incredible work of farmers, butchers and the whole rural economy in producing our famous and unique PGI Welsh Beef and will run until the 31st of May.
Once the entries are in Chris will shortlist 3 of the best entries which he will replicate at home in his kitchen picking the winner in the only fair way – with his taste buds!
The main prize in our grand challenge, a meat lover’s dream – an original, 60cm diameter Kadai fire pit complete with accessories worth over £400.
This incredible prize is perfect for replicating your winning sandwich entry over and over in your garden this summer. For good measure, we’ll also throw in a £100 voucher to spend in any of our Butcher’s Club member’s stores or websites so you can have your fix of premium PGI Welsh Beef steaks.
For our two shortlisted runners-up that have gone over and above with ‘pimping-up’ their sandwich while not reaching the dizzying heights of our winning entry, we will reward them both with a £100 Butcher’s Club voucher of their own to show our appreciation!
Finally, the entry that has used the craziest combo of ingredients to create their pimped up sandwich will again receive a £100 Butcher’s Club voucher for their ingenuity to bring the total prize pot to well over £800 so get your aprons on, your pans at the ready and get rummaging in your cupboards to come up with the best and most unique combos for your steak sandwiches – Good luck to you all!
